My memories as a child are with my mother accompanying me to Gurudwara for langars. I always used to enjoy those visits to gurudwaras because of absolutely scrumptious langar prasad served with atta ka halwa, which is popularly known as Kadha Prasad. This recipe is very common in punjabi households and really easy to make. The mouth watering flavor is absolutely worth all the efforts and the halwa is commonly cooked without any nuts.
So let’s get ready to devour Kadha Prasad.
PREPARATION TIME: 5 mins COOKING TIME: 20 mins
- Whole wheat Flour (Atta) – 1 cup
- Desi Ghee – 1 cup
- Sugar/Jaggery – 1 cup
- Water – 2 cups
Method to Cook:
Firstly, take a pan. Boil the water and add sugar or jaggery as per your choice. You don’t need to make chashni but just boil till the sugar or jaggery is completly melted. Just one boil should be fine.
Meanwhile, take another pan. Heat it and melt the desi ghee. When ghee is melted, add atta. Keep stirring so that there is no lumps. Roast till it gets a beautiful brown color. When the atta is completely roasted, it starts releasing the ghee to the sides of the utensil.
Now add already prepared sugar water syrup. Keep stirring slowly till the water is completely absorbed into atta to form a thick consistency halwa.
Serve the hot halwa before or after your meal.
